How Spring Cleaning Looks

WHEN YOU MOVE THE EGO OUT OF THE WAY

  Listen On Any Platform

Dr. Wayne Dyer famously defined the EGO as Edging God Out.

I don’t know about you but I remember growing up hearing the phrase “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” more times than I can count.

Yet when it comes to cleaning, we often approach it from an ego-centric perspective.  It’s more about the facade of clean.  It's more about what things look like.  (Or smell like!) But in reality, “clean” doesn’t have a smell.

The multi-billion dollar cleaning industry would have you believe otherwise.

They also want you to think that every surface AND kind of dirt requires a different product to do the job “right.”

For example, I grew up thinking that clean sparkly windows equated to fresh spring breeze and birds chirping.  And we used the product below to make that happen:

This image is pulled off of the EWG (Environmental Working Group) APP.  Those letters that you see are the safety grades that the product receives from a complete analysis of the chemicals.

When you click on the product, you can see the potential harm it could cause as well as the list of ingredients and their individual toxicity.

Why does this matter?

Because there are healthy alternatives that ACTUALLY DO WORK!

Pictured here are my favorite cleaning products.  The “EWG Certified” stamp that you see next to the top 2 are actually better than an A.

That’s why my veggie wash and my mirror cleaner are the exact same thing.

In this episode, I discuss the trade-offs we make to create the facade.

Our health.  Our children’s health.  The extra space in our cabinets we use to house all the things we supposedly need.  The environmental impact. And so on.

This episode is designed to help you evaluate those spring cleaning urges as they arrive; where they come from; and how to take action from your authentic self.

We often think of clutter as mess.  But when we take a hard look at how and why we do the things we do, or feel like we should do, we can start to see even the things that we use to clean and organize as a source of our distress.
