What's Your Excuse?

As an interior designer, nearly every conversation that starts a new project either begins with a series of excuses (why things are the way they are) or the realization that the clients just can’t stay in the state they have been and need help getting to where they want to go.

It takes a bit of self-actualization to realize that you need outside help to get to your desired goal.

That is true in design as it is in virtually every other part of life.

That doesn’t mean that help has to be professional.

It doesn’t even mean it has to be a person.

Shifting how you are thinking about any situation is the ONLY path forward.

“If you correct your mind,

The rest of your life will

Fall into place.”

-Lao-tzu

It was an act of trusting Divine guidance that brought Dr. Wayne Dyer into my life in the first place.  If you are a fan of his like I am, you know the power of his words as well as the power of the thought behind them. The book, Excuses Begone!

In this episode, I use the inspiration of this book as a springboard for this deeper understanding of excuses and they affect us far more than we realize.

We journey through the 7 principles you need to master to move into an “excuse-less” way of living.  Those principles are:

  1. Awareness
  2. Alignment
  3. Now
  4. Contemplation
  5. Willingness
  6. Passion
  7. Compassion

Using Dr. Dyer’s guidance system, we can practice these principles by starting small and allowing them to filter into our conscious (or waking) minds. Soon, they become the natural framework for working through much bigger tasks, dreams, and ideas.

The mantra for Awareness- I let go of old ways of thinking, and I access awareness.

The mantra for Alignment- I am aligned with my Source(God) in all of my thoughts, and through that alignment, all things are possible.

The mantra for Now-I choose to stay fully present in the now, and this is the only place I will come to know God (Source).

The mantra for Contemplation- I contemplate myself surrounded by the conditions I wish to attract into my life.

The mantra for Willingness-There is nothing that I am unwilling to think or do in order to become all that I am desired to become.

The mantra for Passion-I invite the presence of God/Spirit to be with me in the form of my passion.

The mantra for Compassion-I am a being of compassion.  I extend love outward everywhere because it is my nature.

Be sure to stay to the end where I share with you the moment that these 7 principles showed up in real form as I was making the last notes on this podcast!

DESIGN A BEDROOM THAT IS AS UNIQUE AND AMAZING AS THE GIRL WHO LIVES THERE

  • Great design goes way beyond bedding and wall color.
  • It encapsulates the needs of the girl who dreams, sleeps, and grows there.
  • It supports her changing emotions and grows with her ever evoloving needs.
